Board accepts bids for jail countertops and COA flooring; awards Leonardo's and Millard Furniture contracts

Montcalm County commissioners on March 24 accepted vendor bids to replace jail countertops and to replace most flooring at the Commission on Aging (COA), approving Leonardo’s for the jail countertops and Millard Furniture for COA flooring.
Doug (director of building and grounds) told the board that the county sought multiple bids for quartz countertops in the jail intake and control rooms; two bids were received and Leonardo’s — a quartz contractor — submitted the low responsive bid. Commissioner Truman moved to accept Leonardo’s bid not to exceed $22,021 for the jail intake and control-room countertops; the motion was supported and the board approved the award.
Doug also presented bids to replace COA carpeting with vinyl plank and carpet tiles in one exercise area. Three contractors bid and Millard Furniture submitted the low responsive bid. Doug said the county had budgeted capital-improvement funds for the project. The board moved and approved accepting Millard Furniture’s bid, not to exceed $23,565.25, and commissioners said they were satisfied capital-improvement funds would cover the cost.
Board discussion included preference for local vendors and confirmation of insurance and scope; staff noted some vendors declined to bid because of insurance requirements or small project scale. The board recorded the motions and carried both votes.
