A Tennessee Department of Education staff member told participants during a monthly office hour that districts must enter growth and achievement measure selections for the 2024-25 school year into TNCompass, and reminded districts that evaluator certification closes in March.
The guidance matters because measure selections in TNCompass determine how teachers are evaluated and scored. The presenter walked through steps to review and upload selections, explained which TNCompass reports to run, and flagged resources on the TEAM website to help districts complete the work before the deadline.
Staff said the fastest way to monitor selections is the Growth and Achievement Measure Selections report in TNCompass, available for download by district or by school. Districts must download at least two reports (one for administrators and one for teachers) and filter out any educators marked as PYE (previous year exempt), the presenter said. Columns referenced in the example report include column N for PYE status; columns O and P for growth measure selections; columns Q–S for achievement measures; and columns T–V for achievement criteria.
The presenter detailed two ways to enter selections: using an administrative edit on a teacher's evaluation page in TNCompass, or using the Import Wizard under the Administration tab. For the Import Wizard, staff demonstrated generating a template (the wizard defaults to the 2425 school year), filling the template by copying the TnCompass ID and measure name from the “All Available Measures” sheet into the template, and re-uploading the file for validation and processing. The presenter recommended the Import Wizard when multiple teachers are missing selections.
The presenter also said: "the department does not currently permit the use of, AI tools. So if we see those logged into the meeting, we will be removing them." They pointed attendees to the TEAM website’s TNCompass tab, which includes a “Growth and Achievement Selection Import” quick guide, an achievement and growth measure selection user guide, and an achievement measure worksheet. Staff noted a separate document on the growth measures tab describes district- and school-level composites.
When asked whether evaluator training for the class observation system carries a cost, a participant named Katie said she needed written confirmation because the cost would affect district decisions. The presenter replied, "I believe that the department has trainers that, offer it free of charge," and said they would drop written information into the chat after the session.
Staff added that roster verification (TVS roster verification) would be opening soon and reiterated contact points mentioned during the office hour: a contact referred to in the session as "team questions" for portfolio questions and an address referred to as "rv.Questionstn dot gov" for roster verification inquiries. Attendees were asked to review and update LEA contacts in TNCompass as needed.
No formal votes or policy changes were made during the office hour; the session provided procedural guidance and resources and answered participant questions. Staff closed by asking districts to complete the selections now to avoid problems when evaluation work resumes later in the year.
