Clarion CDA seeks Main Street closures and courthouse "kids zone" for June festival; board asks for insurance and yard repairs before approval

Britney Hallison with the Clarion Community Development Association told Wright County supervisors on March 17 that the CDA submitted three applications for spring and summer events on Main Street and the courthouse lawn.
Hallison said the first two applications relate to the annual festival: a Friday night family fun event that would close Main Street and end by about 7 p.m., and a children’s zone on the courthouse lawn with inflatables and activities similar to last year. The third application was for a new series of evening events (planned for May, June, July and August) that the group is calling "Right Nights" (previously considered as Mondays on Main).
Board concerns focused on the courthouse lawn: last year inflatables and a generator had caused grass damage and the board asked that organizers provide a certificate of liability insurance and avoid placing generators on the grass. Hallison said the CDA will secure insurance and coordinate with county staff; she also said the courthouse now has electrical service available, which should reduce the need for generators.
Timing and approval: supervisors did not vote to approve the permits on the floor. Instead Hallison submitted the applications to Andy (county staff) for review; board members asked Andy to verify insurance, confirm exact layouts and check the lawn repair schedule. Supervisors suggested the May 5 date remain tentative until yard repairs are complete.
What happens next: county staff will review the CDA applications, confirm insurance coverage and provide a recommendation to the board before any formal permit or closure is authorized.
