Skagit County appoints Jed Holmes to Planning Commission seat for District 3

The Skagit County Board of Commissioners voted March 24 to appoint Jed Holmes to Seat 8 representing District 3 on the Skagit County Planning Commission. The appointment was made to fill an incomplete term and was approved unanimously.
Commissioner Wiesen moved to appoint Jed Holmes to the District 3 seat; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Browning and carried on an affirmative voice vote. The board clarified that the appointment is effective April 1 and will expire Aug. 31, the regular expiration date for that seat, because the opening resulted from a resignation.
“Just to clarify that he will be filling a, an incomplete term,” a commissioner stated during the motion discussion, referencing the shortened term length. After the vote the board welcomed Holmes to the commission; the meeting record indicates Holmes was seated at the conclusion of the roll call.
Commissioners said they had received a strong pool of applicants for the two open planning-commission seats and that District 3 produced multiple submissions. The board noted it is continuing the interview process for the remaining District 1 vacancy.
No formal ordinance or code change accompanied the appointment; the action was a personnel appointment under the board’s authority.
