Extension reports 4-H, STEM and community education activity; announces events and partnership efforts

Extension staff provided a March 24 update to commissioners on 4-H programs, youth workforce development, upcoming events and partnerships.
Staff reported completion of a ranchers teaching youth program and a successful steer weigh-in despite winter weather. Extension noted collaboration with McCall Elementary for a school meal event and positive engagement at National Ag Day activities that included local food education and a Ridley27s gift-card giveaway.
Extension staff said they are launching a pilot strengths-based program (Gallup Strengths) for youth and parents, expanding STEM programming at the McCall library, and developing an independent-living curriculum for older teens that would teach basic life skills such as budgeting and cooking. The extension office is exploring collaborations with local food banks and the Change Cafe to deliver transition and life-skills training.
Upcoming events and outreach cited to commissioners included:
- Bowls of Hope fundraisers on April 1 (Cascade and McCall locations). - A geothermal heating-and-cooling district open house at the American Legion on April 10 with environmental-education programming for children. - Victory Garden Series and other community workshops in the coming weeks.
Staff also reported fair-board planning, market sale logistics and use of AmeriCorps support for events. Extension staff said they will attend the annual conference in mid-April but will present at the next commissioners meeting before departing.
Commissioners were asked to help with outreach promotion and to expect additional program information and links to be posted on the county website.
