Powell honors two police officers for evacuating residents during Parkview apartment fire

Mayor and council members recognized Powell Police Officers Isaac Gutierrez and Kevin Bennett for their actions during a structure fire at Parkview Apartments on Feb. 17, 2025.
According to the account read during the meeting, Powell Police Dispatch received a report about 2 a.m. that a structure at 749 North Beckman Street was on fire. Officers Gutierrez and Bennett arrived and, while Powell Fire Department and other first responders responded, entered occupied apartments to evacuate residents and escorted utility personnel to the scene. Fire suppression and utility control followed as flames breached an exterior wall and electrical lines arced.
A written letter from HDA Management, the property manager for Parkview Apartments, was also read and said, in part: "On behalf of the owners of the property, we would like to extend our appreciation to Officer Kevin Bennett and Officer Isaac Gutierrez for their bravery in entering a dark smoke-filled burning building to ensure the safety of our tenants in the early morning of February 17." The meeting record shows city officials said there were no injuries.
The mayor and council thanked the officers for their service, and the city noted follow-up cleanup and repair work is underway at the property.
