Commissioners on March 6 endorsed continued support for community event initiatives tied to the Buttercup Festival and other town committees' grant pursuits.
A commissioner reported that the Buttercup Festival committee has asked the town to continue two $1,000 Evelyn Bennett scholarships for Nolensville High School seniors; commissioners expressed support and asked the committee chair, Tracy Windrow, to include the scholarships in upcoming budget numbers for formal review.
Committee reports noted that sponsorships are arriving and social-media promotion has been effective; one recent sponsor named in the meeting was Village Green, and United Communications was cited as a sponsor for a music booking. The events committee is also seeking one or two large sponsors for the Star Spangled event.
Members of the newly formed TAPS committee (Trees, Arts, Parks & Streetscapes) reported progress: Jennica Harris was appointed committee chair, the committee plans a booth at Buttercup and is coordinating banner and trail activities. The trees-and-trails committee scheduled a May 18 Mill Creek cleanup event.
Staff and commissioners also discussed a potential T‑Mobile grant (computing/community betterment grant, $50,000) to support Greystone Park improvements. Staff recommended developing an overall project plan—potentially the Walk Bridge (a 50-foot, 10-foot-wide concrete structure under discussion), ADA-access walking connections and a pavilion—so the town can submit a stronger application next quarter with partner commitments and a clear scope. Staff said the grant for this quarter is due at month-end but recommended applying next quarter to assemble partners and a larger project narrative.
Why it matters: Event sponsorships and grants fund community programs and physical improvements; clear budget entries and committee coordination are necessary before staff commits town funds or applies for grants.
Ending: Committees will finalize budget requests and event sponsorship packages; staff will return budget figures and a project plan for the Greystone Park grant consideration at an upcoming workshop.
