County to clear obstruction trees near Adams County Airport approach; Castle Rock Park to allow ATV access on east side of County Z

County staff reported efforts to address trees that exceed height restrictions on the Adams County Airport north approach and discussed park projects including ATV access at Castle Rock Park.
Kyle (county staff) said some obstruction trees fall on property owned by Adams County, the Humane Society, the town of Adams and a small area on 4-H property. He said the Department of Natural Resources will assist in getting a logger to remove the trees and that there may be a profit share to the Humane Society and the town if timber sales occur. A separate land-acquisition at the south end of the airport approaches remains underway with the Bureau of Aeronautics assisting, Kyle said.
When asked whether runway length could accommodate jets, staff said the runway is not currently long enough for typical business jets.
On parks, staff noted Castle Rock Park will allow ATVs on park roads east of County Z this summer. Staff also described plans for a new maintenance/shop building on the park's east side and said off-season trailer/boat parking is currently charged at $2 per day or $60 per month. Committee members asked about safety measures for people crossing County Z; staff said a crossing includes flashing lights, a 25 mph speed limit and signage.
No formal motions were required on the airport clearing or the park ATV access during the meeting; staff will continue coordination with DNR and the Bureau of Aeronautics and will present further project details as they become available.
