UW Extension staff changes, pollinator project and lake maintenance questions noted at Adams County meeting

At the Adams County Land and Water Committee meeting, the UW Extension director provided an update including staffing changes and educator activity reports; the committee also heard staff describe a pollinator garden project and a citizen asked about long-standing maintenance issues at Patrick’s Lake.
The director reported the resignation of Regional Crops Educator Natasha Paris, who accepted a position with Miller Fertilizer (private industry). The position covers multiple counties; the director said the department will consider re-filling the role. The director also said staff have been responding to open records requests and continuing work on ongoing projects.
Land and Water staff described a collaboration with the Solid Waste Department and U.S. Fish and Wildlife to install a pollinator (butterfly) garden on a two-acre county parcel near the 21 entrance gate; the living fence parcel will host the garden near the gate.
During the Lake Alliance report, staff described planned treatments and actions at several lakes (McGinnis Lake, Jordan Lake, Deep Lake, Goose Lake, Peppermill Lake, Parkerway Lake). Supervisor Posdolski raised citizen concerns that Patrick’s Lake and its adjacent park show 10 to 15 years of deferred maintenance (dead trees at boat landing, falling limbs) and asked how to add Patrick’s Lake to the Lake Alliance. Committee members responded that lake associations must join the alliance voluntarily and that county parks/property and recreation handles park maintenance issues. The committee did not take direct action on park maintenance.
The committee packet included the project status report and staff reports; the director said staff are preparing the 2026 staff allocation/funding application due April 15.
