Committee endorses nutrient management farmer education grant for county board review

Adams County Land and Water Committee members voted to forward a resolution asking the county board to consider applying for a Nutrient Management Farmer Education Grant to support workshops that help local producers develop nutrient management plans.
Tyler, the department’s resource conservationist, described the grant as funding workshops where producers would learn to develop and certify nutrient management plans using tools such as SnapPlus, including soil tests and manure analysis. The training would also be a prerequisite for farmland preservation enrollment and could link producers to the county cost-sharing program.
Supervisor Posdolski raised procedural concerns about whether the resolution had been routed to corporation counsel before the meeting, citing board rules that call for review. Committee members replied that the item could be forwarded to the county board and that staff would route the resolution through the required legal review after committee approval. Supervisor David Boroski seconded the motion to send the resolution on to the county board.
Committee members described how funds could be used for operational costs, set-up, and attendee stipends. The motion to forward the resolution was approved and will be transmitted to the county board for action.
The committee packet also included a project status report and staff reports; no further actions were taken on those materials during the meeting.
