The City of Bowie Diversity Committee presented a Women’s History Month program at the March 17 council meeting that recognized local women leaders and referenced historic figures whose work influenced civil rights, art and environmentalism.
The presenter described Councilwoman Wanda Rogers as a "trailblazing leader in government and business," noting her founding of W. Rogers Executive Consulting LLC and a long career at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The committee highlighted Councilwoman Roxy Ndeboomadu’s election milestones and community service, and the presentation noted the cultural and civic significance of artists and activists including Frida Kahlo, Billie Holiday and Rachel Carson.
The committee framed Women’s History Month as an opportunity to "amplify the voices of women from all walks of life" and urged support for continued efforts to empower women in Bowie and beyond. The council responded with applause and brief remarks of appreciation for the presenters and the women recognized.
