Council receives certification of District 3 special election and administers oath to new councilmember Raymond Ranker

The Board of Elections Supervisors presented certification of the March special election for District 3 during the council meeting on March 18 and the council administered the oath of office to Raymond (Ray) Ranker, who will fill the vacant District 3 seat.
Susan Hamridge of the Board of Elections Supervisors reported the total number of votes cast in the District 3 special election was 512 and gave vote breakdowns for named candidates in the packet; she said the participation rate for District 3 voters was 12.16 percent. Hamridge said the board will file final campaign finance reports and notifications of provisional-voter acceptances to the county as required.
Following certification, Ranker took the oath of office and gave brief remarks thanking his family, city staff and residents of District 3 for their support. Mayor Curtad Mitchell and council members welcomed Ranker and noted the council resumes a full complement of members with the new swearing-in.
