Bowie council appoints Randall Jordan and KaShira Brown, then moves to closed session

The Bowie City Council on March 17 voted to appoint Randall Jordan to the City of Bowie Arts Committee and to appoint and swear in KaShira Brown as an alternate member of the Board of Personnel Appeals. The council also approved its consent agenda and voted to adjourn to a closed session to discuss the acquisition of real property and to obtain legal advice.

The council unanimously approved both appointments by voice vote. Randall Jordan was appointed as a regular member of the Arts Committee for a two-year term; Jordan was not present at the meeting. KaShira Brown was appointed as an alternate member of the Board of Personnel Appeals for a two-year term and was sworn into office at the meeting.

Council members also approved the consent agenda by voice vote earlier in the meeting. Toward the end of the public session, the council voted to move into a closed session under the Maryland Annotated Code, General Provisions Article §3-305(b)(3) to consider the acquisition of real property for a public purpose and §3-305(b)(7) to consult with counsel to obtain legal advice. The motion to adjourn to closed session was seconded and carried by voice vote; the council then recessed for the closed session.

The swearing-in of KaShira Brown took place on the council floor after the appointment vote. During the oath, Brown repeated the pledge to support the Constitution of the United States and to execute the office of alternate member of the Board of Personnel Appeals "to the best of my skill and judgment."
