She also described financial work to reduce the agency’s long‑term bonded debt — noting a reduction from about $3.9 billion to roughly $2.9 billion and that the legacy bonding obligation will sunset in 2044.
Representatives from the governor’s office explained the nomination process: the governor’s office requests nominations by June 1 and posts nominations publicly by Aug. 1; the governor then forwards nominees for confirmation. Jana Osler, who helps facilitate the governor’s nominations process, said the office circulated materials and will assist with the timeline. COG members questioned the timing of a recommendation given the June 1 governor deadline and discussed giving candidates an opportunity to present at the next COG meeting. Members asked to defer formal action and to allow interested candidates to announce or submit themselves before COG forwards any names to local commissions or the governor.
No formal nomination was made at the meeting. Members agreed to continue the discussion at the April meeting, allow candidates to present to the COG and to forward recommendations after those presentations if desired.
