Public works updates; commission approves up to $12,000 for safety fence at county approach

Public works staff provided a progress update to the Duchesne County Commission on March 17 covering road maintenance projects, a new yard site, North Crescent work in coordination with the city and construction on a county building site. The presentation included earthwork and geotechnical details and a plan to use local crushed material and compaction for site fill.

Staff outlined a safety concern at a roadside corner and reported they had discussed acquiring a small parcel from a private owner to improve the approach and install a fence. Estimates and contractor responses were discussed during the meeting; public works staff said a short length (roughly a few hundred feet total) of fence could improve the turning approach and safety at the location.

A commissioner moved to authorize up to $12,000 for the fence project and related work; another commissioner seconded the motion. The commission voiced approval by saying “aye” during the meeting and the motion carried in the open session. Staff said they would return with formal bids and final procurement details, and noted the county would seek to minimize inventory and maintenance costs for monitoring equipment and construction machinery as projects progress.

The presentation also included updates that a new road machine had arrived in Salt Lake and should be delivered soon, graders were out working after recent light storms, and a building excavation geotechnical review recommended a non‑permeable cap layer or suitable clay mix for long‑term stability of the planned structure.
