Commission approves $54,055 to address maintenance needs at North Spring Shooting Range

County staff told the commission that North Spring Shooting Range changed its request from a Phase 2 road project to immediate maintenance needs. The presenter said North Spring submitted two proposals and that the tax advisory board recommended funding the first phase, totaling $54,055.
“Last year, as you guys know, we were able to put some of our funding into the first phase road project, which was very helpful at North Springs. This year instead of working on phase 2… they have some really serious needs right now that need to be addressed right away,” the presenter said. The listed items included dumpster rental and removal, paint and building exterior repair, chinking of log cabins, additional security cameras, and sidewalk work tied to ADA access.
A commissioner who attended the tax advisory board meeting described the planned maintenance as “critical” and supported using county funds now to avoid higher costs later. The commission voted to approve the MOU; the presenter said North Spring would provide a final report and receipts documenting how the county funds were used. Commissioners did not vote to fund the second phase pending grant opportunities.
