Commission approves $10,000 MOU to help fund Helper River restoration project

Tina Grange told the Carbon County Commission that the county’s tax advisory board recommended approving Helper City’s request for $10,000 to support a river restoration project. Grange said Helper’s mayor and city staff have assembled grant funding and that the city is also pursuing additional grants. “They have came and asked the board for $10,000. With that, she's matching it with $313,000 in grant money, and she's also applied for an additional 2 just over 200,000,” Grange said.
Grange said the proposed memorandum of understanding would require Helper City to submit a final report and receipts showing how the county funds were spent. The tax advisory board voted to recommend the funding, and a county commissioner moved to approve the MOU during the meeting. The motion was seconded and the commission voted in favor; the MOU passed.
No detailed timeline for project completion was presented at the meeting, and commissioners did not amend the MOU. One commissioner commented that the funds represented a “good use of the money.”
