House adopts resolution honoring LifeSmarts state winners and US Senate Youth Program delegate

The Hawaii House of Representatives on May 20 adopted House Resolution 211 to recognize the winners of the 2025 LifeSmarts state competition and to congratulate a student chosen as a United States Senate Youth Program delegate.

The resolution, offered by Representative Tam, was moved for adoption by Representative Tam and seconded by Representative Woodson. After remarks from Tam and several colleagues recognizing the students and their coaches, the House took a voice vote and the motion was carried.

Representative Tam introduced and congratulated the first-place team, the Iolani Raiders, and listed team members present in the gallery: Kevin Flemings (captain), Jeremy Choi (representing the team on the floor), Ryan Chan, Tyler Hiju, Cade McDevitt, and coach Kit Yu Wong. Tam noted the team’s preparation for the upcoming national competition in Chicago.

Representative Hashem (identified on the floor as offering remarks) congratulated the second-place team, Kalani High School’s “Kalani 5.1,” and named students and coaches present, including Koki Oda, Leila Florendo, and coach Mike Zane; several team members were reported unable to attend.

Representative Woodson introduced Wilson Chow of Maui High School, identified on the floor as a 2025 U.S. Senate Youth Program delegate. House remarks described Chow’s school leadership roles and community activities; Representative Woodson said Chow plans to pursue a degree in economics.

After the presentations the House recessed to allow members to meet the honorees. The resolution was adopted by voice vote.
