Academy District 20 president resigns; board elects Amy Shandy president and Derek Wilburn treasurer

At a board meeting of Academy School District No. 20, the district's board president announced he will step down immediately and formally submitted his resignation effective June 1, and the board elected Amy Shandy as president and Derek Wilburn as treasurer by unanimous roll call.
The outgoing president said he is leaving because of a change in his professional circumstances that requires his full attention. “After 3 and a half years of service to Academy District 20, including 18 months as board president, I find myself at a professional crossroads that requires my full attention,” said Mr. Salt, board president. He told the board he will continue to participate through the remainder of the spring semester and formally resign effective June 1 so the board can make an appointment this summer.
The resignation was followed by nominations and roll-call elections. A nomination was made for Amy Shandy for the office of president; with no further nominations the board held a roll-call vote. The clerk called each member’s name and each answered “aye,” and the chair announced, “The ayes have it. Miss Shandy is now elected president.”
The board then nominated Derek Wilburn for treasurer. The clerk again conducted a roll-call vote; all members present answered “aye,” and Wilburn was declared elected. After the vote Wilburn said he was “deeply honored and incredibly humbled” to serve and said he looks forward to working with staff and students to prioritize academics, improve student outcomes and “champion education freedom.”
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the meeting agenda by motion and roll call. The board also moved to approve Resolution 186-25, described at the meeting as the election of board officers by roll call; that resolution was the procedural vehicle used for the officer elections.
No formal discussion of replacement process beyond the elections was recorded; the outgoing president’s statement indicated the board may appoint a replacement over the summer. No contested votes or abstentions were recorded for the agenda approval or the officer elections.
