Board backs application for DNR stormwater planning grant to update city's water-quality model

The Waukesha City Board of Public Works voted March 20 to approve a resolution supporting a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Urban Nonpoint Source and Stormwater Management Planning grant application. The grant would fund up to 50% of eligible costs to update the city’s stormwater quality management plan, program and water-quality modeling.
Staff explained the city’s existing stormwater model and plan date from roughly 10–15 years ago and need updating; the DNR is finalizing a total maximum daily load (TMDL) that will require an updated plan. Staff said the grant would help cover half the cost of the engineering study to update the model and that the city would need to provide the remaining 50% of project costs. Staff added the work will require hiring an engineering consultant because the city lacks the required software.
Board members confirmed the item covers stormwater (not treated wastewater) and the mechanics of a 50/50 cost share under the DNR grant. The board approved the resolution by voice vote.
