Dane County Board confirms full-time legislative lobbyist amid some dissent

The Dane County Board of Supervisors confirmed the appointment of Lacey Fox as the county’s legislative lobbyist by adopting Resolution 2024-3-53.
The appointment, presented on the recommendation of the executive committee, drew a recorded no from Supervisor Wiegand, who said he opposed creating a full-time lobbyist position and considered the proposed compensation too high. Several supervisors spoke in favor of the position as essential for protecting local control and interfacing with the state legislature. Lacey Fox told the board she has spent more than 10 years working at the state legislature, most recently as a chief of staff to a member of the Joint Finance Committee and described her experience advising on budget matters and training advocates.
The board adopted the resolution by voice vote; the chair asked the record to show Supervisor Andre abstained per the chat. The measure makes Lacey Fox the county’s legislative lobbyist as described in the appointment resolution.
