Dane County Board proclaims March 2025 Women’s History Month and highlights pay equity efforts

The Dane County Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution 2024-3-68 recognizing March 2025 as Women’s History Month and acknowledging Equal Pay Day and pay equity concerns.
The resolution, moved by Supervisor Eicker and seconded by Supervisor Smith, cites the 2025 national theme and local honorees, including Mother Malele Chikasa Anana, Ellen Bravo, Karen Klaus and Lucia Nunez, and calls for community recognition and efforts to eliminate the gender pay gap. The board approved the resolution by voice vote.
After the resolution, Dr. Christina Outlay (identified in the meeting as Dr. Christina Outlet), executive director of the nonprofit MAYDM, spoke about the organization’s work serving girls and youth of color in STEM, noting that "60 percent of our participants are girls on average" and describing programs including summer camps, after-school programs and a paid high-school internship program. She urged supervisors to support opportunities that increase representation and pay equity in STEM careers.
Family members of Mother Malele Chikasa Anana addressed the board, thanking the board for the recognition and describing her civil-rights and civic contributions in Madison and Dane County. Speakers noted Anana’s role in local education and civic institutions and recalled her advocacy for equitable classrooms and community engagement.
The resolution was adopted and the board received remarks from local leaders and family members honoring women’s contributions and pay-equity advocacy.
