District secures grants and donations for Paxton Patterson career labs; plans 20 middle-school kits and elementary sets

Muhlenberg County Schools officials told the board they have secured a mix of private and public funding to purchase Paxton Patterson career-lab kits for elementary and middle schools.
The district reported $100,000 pledged by the Martin Foundation, $50,000 from federal Perkins grant funding, $50,000 from CTE funds and $23,000 in business donations toward the Paxton Patterson kits. Using that funding, district staff said they ordered 20 lab totes for the middle school and six totes for each elementary school, with an estimate for rolling locking carts pending from the vendor.
Staff said the middle school will adjust scheduling to accommodate the labs and that the district will continue fundraising to expand kits (staff said an ideal target would be about 30 labs at the middle school). The board was told maintenance or replacement of consumable materials for the kits would cost roughly $2,000 per year.
Administrators also described visits by district teams to learn from other schools and industry partners, including a learning visit that included presentations with Apple and a Learner Center Collaborative visit out of state, which helped shape the lab selections and implementation plans. Staff will present vendor quotes and final purchasing recommendations once the vendor—s estimate for rolling carts and locked storage is returned.
No formal vote was required; the funding sources were presented as secured commitments and staff proceeded with vendor engagement for quotes.
