District updates Longest Elementary renovation, field house progress and upcoming bid schedule

Muhlenberg County Schools received updates on several capital projects, including a kindergarten and preschool renovation at Longest Elementary, progress on the Muhlenberg Field House and pending work at the high school and middle school.
Charles, an engineer working with the district's architectural team, told the board the Longest Elementary kindergarten and preschool renovation plans have been submitted for permit review and that a pre-bid meeting is scheduled for April 2, 2025, at 2 p.m. on-site at Longest Elementary. He said the team aims to begin construction during the start of summer break to minimize classroom disruption.
Charles also reported that the Muhlenberg County Field House experienced weather-related delays; project teams held a progress meeting on March 11 and planned a follow-up progress meeting on April 2, 2025, at 11 a.m. He said the general contractor is working to recover schedule time and that three change orders outside the original scope are being priced and will be brought to the board when available.
Other work cited included high-school kitchen and baseball-field renovations and restroom renovations at the high school; pricing and contractor coordination were in progress for those items. Charles and staff said they would provide cost estimates and change-order pricing to the board before the next meeting where possible.
No formal board votes were required for the informational construction update; board members were invited to ask questions and follow up with staff on timing and costs.
