Superintendent Miss Smith told the Jackson County Board of Education that the board's monthly superintendent standard for March is human resources and described district activities on staffing, leadership and programs.
Miss Smith said district leadership has held regular leadership meetings to review existing initiatives and explore new ones. She said she has discussed staffing and School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) allocations with each principal after conferring with Human Resources and the finance officer; those allocations represent the allotments each school has for staff for the year.
Miss Smith said the district has discussed opening a daycare as one strategy to recruit and retain employees and that she has met with some employees about future positions. She announced interim assignments at Jackson County High School, naming Greg Perrett as interim head principal and Dustin Coffey as interim dean of students.
The superintendent also said the district leadership team has conducted walk-throughs at each school and then met with principals to review findings, and that the district is scheduling a Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program to begin in an upcoming school year (start date not specified in the record).
Miss Smith announced a first orientation meeting for the local facilities planning committee (LPC) to prepare the district facility plan. That meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m. in the board presentation room; state requirements call for a forum of board members to be present. Miss Smith identified Mister Hicks as the board's LPC representative and asked two other board members to plan to attend.
On the superintendent evaluation process, Miss Smith noted that she is evaluated on the superintendent standards at year'end and that human resources is the standard she is presenting this month. She closed by saying the leadership work and school-level walkthroughs are intended to identify areas for continued improvement.
