Oxnard City Clerk Presents Nominations to Multiple Citizen Advisory Boards

Oxnard City Clerk Lully Lopez presented a slate of recommended mayoral appointments to the City Council for several citizen advisory commissions and committees, saying the nominations have completed the city's background-check procedures and are being forwarded for the mayor's nomination and council approval.

The nominations covered the Community Relations Commission, Cultural Arts Commission, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission, Planning Commission, Senior Services Commission and the Measure O Citizen Oversight Committee. Lopez said staff will return on a rolling basis with additional nominations to fill remaining vacancies.

The recommendations listed by Lopez included: Tiffany Lopez (District 3) and Megan Salas (District 6) for the Community Relations Commission; Sandra Diaz (District 3) and Alyssa Torres (District 6) for the Cultural Arts Commission; Joe Garcia (District 2) and Angela Wycombe (District 4) for the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission; Ronald Aurejo (District 4) and Dr. Miguel Lopez (District 6) for the Planning Commission; Gloria Pastel (District 1), Gloria Massey Chaneya (District 3) and Linda Calderon (District 6) for the Senior Services Commission; and Steve Nash (District 1), Naomi Valdez (District 2), Ronald Aurejo (District 3) and Ruby Durrias (District 4) for the Measure O Citizen Oversight Committee.

Lopez described eligibility and composition requirements that accompany some boards: the Community Relations Commission and the Cultural Arts Commission are each composed of seven city residents age 18 or older; the Senior Services Commission is composed of seven residents who have reached their 50th birthday. The Measure O Citizen Oversight Committee is a nine-member panel that includes one member appointed at large by the mayor, six district-appointed members, one representative active in a business organization, and one active in a neighborhood council or association; members must be city residents and at least 18 years old. Lopez also summarized the Planning Commission's statutory duties as set out in the Oxnard City Code and the California Government Code, including preparing and reviewing the general plan, implementing zoning and subdivision ordinances, and reviewing capital improvement projects for consistency with the general plan.

Lopez repeatedly noted that nominees listed in her presentation "have passed the city's formal background check procedures."
