Montebello City staff told the Parks and Recreation Commission that the City Park baseball field renovation is substantially complete and is scheduled to open for reservations and city programs in mid-April.
The project, identified in the city's park master plan, was funded using the city's annual allocation from Los Angeles County Measure A and local savings to cover construction. Staff showed commissioners photos of finished dugouts, a new backstop, bleachers, sidewalks, ADA enhancements and the sports field turf installed as the final touch.
"Starting off with a project we brought here to the commission several times and excited to say this is essentially done," said Staff member Steph, who presented the update to the commission. Steph said the city receives "around $200,000 annually" from Los Angeles County Measure A and that the city banked allocations to pay for the renovation.
Commissioners were told the Public Works Department closed out the project with city council approval and that the field will be available for rental and city program reservations in mid-April.
The presentation did not include a detailed line-item construction budget or contractor name. Staff invited commissioners to ask questions about scheduling and reservations prior to the mid-April opening.
