The director said the commission approved a no-smoking policy for the Dedham Complex that prohibits smoking within 20 feet of county buildings; designated smoking areas will be made available. He also reported that a fully endorsed FY26 contract with the state trial courts for the Quincy District Court had been signed and forwarded to procurement; the director stated the contract amount as $731,000 to cover operational services including salaries and non-salary expenses.
The director reported that the county had received a $22,000 reimbursement from the state for an incident response plan grant and thanked staff who worked on the reimbursement. He also said the county posted the RSVP volunteer coordinator position to replace Christopher Goldsmith, who is winding down toward retirement.
On budgeting, the director said he had received a letter from the Register of Deeds requesting a transfer to offset reductions made to his budget by the advisory board on Sept. 17. The director said the letter was ambiguous about specific representations made at the advisory board meeting and that transfers must comply with Massachusetts General Law; he said salary transfers would next be considered at the December 2025 advisory board meeting.
Separately, staff noted that the operational review contractor for the treasurer's office, Robert Fontana, is expected to start around Oct. 16 and that the county provided him with contact information for key individuals. The director closed by noting a memorial for retired custodian John Marinucci, a 23-year employee who passed away and will be buried Friday at St. Mary's Church in Canton.
