The Redevelopment Authority discussed a potential sale of city-owned riverside property to Mercury Marine and ongoing negotiations to secure utility easements from ATC before conveying the land.
City staff said the parcel the city owns adjacent to Mercury Marine is likely best used as a parking lot because ATC transmission lines cross the lot and a recorded easement would limit development options. Staff described work to secure an ATC easement and said a meeting with Mercury, ATC and city legal staff is scheduled for next week to resolve outstanding language in the easement documents.
Staff said the city prefers to complete easement recording before completing the purchase agreement so future buyers would retain parking use despite the transmission easement, and noted Mercury plans to expand and needs additional staff parking. The city also negotiates to retain a portion of the lot for the riverwalk as part of the transaction.
Because the easement language is still under negotiation, no purchase agreement vote was taken. Staff said it may call a special meeting to approve a final offer and easement once legal terms are ready, and will circulate scheduling availability to board members.
