The board debated whether the facility should be called the "Salt Lakewood Event Complex" or retain the longstanding name "Salt Lakewood Event Center" and voted to table the naming decision until its next meeting.
Members discussed that "complex" could connote a broader facility and allow for naming individual parts — the arena, livestock area, stalls and other spaces — while others preferred continuing to call it a center because that is what has been used historically. A board member noted they were unsure whether naming signage or sponsorship materials had already been produced and suggested checking before making a final decision.
One board member said, "I didn't see where it was complex. It was always center," while another said using "complex" "gives... you can start promoting it and it hits the complex, it's the whole facility, so you still have naming rights on all the end of the building." The discussion included mentions that individual spaces within the facility could carry separate naming rights.
A motion to table the official name until the next meeting was made and seconded; the motion passed on recorded votes of yes from Glass, Hood, Holder, Klein and Hannaford.
The board did not announce a formal, final name at the meeting. Members asked staff to determine whether any promotional materials or signage bearing a specific name have already been produced and to report back at the next meeting.
