Boulder designates March 22 as annual Day of Remembrance for 2021 King Soopers shooting victims

Boulder City Council on March 20 declared March 22 as the Boulder Day of Remembrance, to be observed each year in perpetuity to honor the 10 people killed in the March 22, 2021 King Soopers mass shooting.
Council member Tara Weiner read the names of the 10 victims and moved the declaration, saying the city “will say their names out loud so that in our hearts they will live on.” The council signed and adopted the annual designation at the meeting.
The council said the community is invited to a Day of Remembrance ceremony on March 22, 2025, at the Museum of Boulder, 2205 Broadway. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.; the program and moment of silence run from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The notice said the city and community partners including the District Attorney’s Office, the Museum of Boulder and Clinica Family Health and Wellness will participate.
The declaration lists the 10 people killed: Denny Stong, Nevan Stanisich, Ricky Olds, Trelona Bartkowiak, Suzanne Fountain, Terry Leiker, Kevin Mahoney, Lynn Murray, Jody Waters and Officer Eric Talley. Councilmember Weiner said the city adopted the annual observance so the victims’ names and lives are remembered each year.
The meeting agenda identified the item as a declaration presented by Council member Weiner; the mayor signed the declaration during the meeting.
