Middletown building committee reports 100% construction documents submitted for new high school; groundbreaking expected in May

The Middletown School Building Committee reported on March 20, 2025, that the design phase for the new Middletown High School is substantially complete and that the project is moving toward procurement and construction.
Committee members said the design team submitted 100% construction documents and the project specifications total about 2,100 pages with roughly 620 sheets of drawings for the high school alone. The project includes nine bid alternates the committee will review as funding and bids are finalized.
Committee members said Gilbane (the construction manager) will mobilize on site soon and that preparations are underway for a groundbreaking scheduled in May. The planning board has granted preliminary approval, and a project labor agreement has been executed; committee members said they expect reports on those items by the end of March.
The committee also discussed accommodations for sports and other activities that will be displaced during construction at the Garde Fields/Gardai site and said an update will be presented at an upcoming meeting.
Committee members asked the public to consult the project web pages for renderings and detailed specifications. The building committee said it remains on schedule and on budget as it moves from design to bidding and construction mobilization.
