Board recognizes high school student researchers and regional music participants; students perform

Carisle Area School District honored students for AP Research publication, district-to-state music and choir placements and heard a violin/viola duet during the March board meeting.
The Carlisle Area School District board paused its business agenda to recognize students who achieved academic and musical distinctions.
Nora Flattery, a Carlisle High School student, was recognized for having work from an AP Research project published in an educational journal. Flattery described choosing a study of "affective polarization" and said her research found that among high school peers "there's a lot less misinformation consumption than we think," but that consuming biased news was a strong predictor of developing biases toward others.
Band, choir and orchestra students were recognized for county, district, regional and state placements. Dr. Petrovich, the district’s head music teacher, and Mr. Marazzo, director of bands, read names of students who made county band and district and state ensembles. The board then heard a duet performance: Nathan Dally (violin) and Noah Yang (viola) played Passacaglia for violin and viola by Johan Halvorsen.
Board members praised the students, their families and teachers. Several members said the performances and recognitions demonstrate the depth of the district’s arts and music instruction.
Proper names and specific placements — including county, district, regional and state honors for individual students — were read aloud at the meeting and are recorded in the district packet and meeting transcript.
