Oro Valley schedules April 18 stormwater field trip; April meeting canceled

Dennis Roberts, director, briefed commissioners that the Stormwater Utility Commission’s annual field trip is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to review stormwater projects at several town locations.
Roberts said the tentative stops include Sierra Wash at Naraha, Via Mandarina (where construction will be under way), Glover Road, Naraha Park (post-construction follow-up), Mudders Wash at El Capucidor Way in Grinnick, and the Puschview Golf Course bridge replacement that involved the town. He said the tour will include completed, in-progress and planned repairs to help commissioners understand infrastructure needs and priorities.
Roberts told the commission the regular April stormwater utility commission meeting has been canceled to accommodate the field trip; the tour will begin at 680 W. Kia Concordia works facilities. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about site details and whether the Glover Road location is east of La Cholla; staff confirmed the location and discussed downstream culvert issues and channel down-cutting.
Roberts said the event will provide an opportunity to view channel capacity concerns, floodplain mapping by FEMA in some areas, and projects being planned or coordinated with Pima County, including a project to address ponding near Oro Valley Country Club using injection wells in partnership with Pima County design and funding discussions.
The commission recorded no further items and adjourned later in the meeting.
