Leander staff report progress on Raider Way, Eastwood View, Baghdad Road signals and senior center construction

City staff on March 20 updated Leander City Council on several capital-improvement projects: Raider Way/Eastwood View reconstruction, Baghdad Road/Collaborative Way roadwork and signals, and the new Leander Senior Activity Center.

Raider Way and Eastwood View: Program manager Bettis said crews completed the final asphalt layer and striping had begun; Bettis told council striping should finish before students return from spring break. Bettis also reported two recent collisions and some enforcement activity during construction and thanked Leander Police and Fire for assistance with traffic and safety during the work.

Baghdad Road and Collaborative Way: Bettis reported that signal poles are installed and the signals will enter flash mode for about a week while crews finalize work; asphalt placement for the northbound lane was scheduled to begin the following day with turn-lane work (curb, gutter, sidewalk) anticipated to be complete within the week. "It is anticipated that we will meet substantial completion on this project by the March," Bettis said during the update.

Leander Senior Activity Center: Bettis displayed photos showing roof installation, exterior waterproofing, window mock-ups and interior framing. He said mechanical, plumbing and electrical work are underway and that masonry was scheduled to begin in March; staff indicated the building should be substantially complete by summer.

Golf course restaurant opening: Werner, general manager of Crystal Falls Golf Course, reported the Cork & Barrel restaurant opened the prior day and is operating publicly with morning-to-evening service and plans for event catering; council members encouraged residents to try the facility.

What to watch: Staff will monitor final striping and signal activation schedules and report any changes. Substantial completion dates and traffic pattern changes will be noticed to residents and schools as required.
