Leander City Council on March 20 unanimously postponed action on the proposed annexation of about 337.292 acres and on the companion zoning application for the Oakwood Hills area until its April 17 meeting.
Why it matters: The annexation and rezoning would change jurisdiction and land-use rules for a large area adjacent to the city. Council members asked staff and the applicant for additional neighborhood outreach and for answers to questions raised at earlier hearings.
Staff request: Griffin, executive director of development services, asked the council to postpone the first reading of the annexation ordinance and related zoning so staff and the applicant could complete additional research and outreach. "Staff is requesting that the city council postpone action on this request till the April 17 meeting," Griffin said.
Public hearing and council action: Council opened and closed the public hearing; no speakers had signed up for the March 20 hearing. The council voted unanimously to postpone both the annexation ordinance (item 24) and the zoning case (item 21) to April 17 to give the applicant time to complete neighborhood outreach and allow staff to answer outstanding questions.
What to watch: The April 17 meeting will include updated outreach documentation and staff responses to council questions; council members asked staff to ensure the applicant pursues the requested community contacts before the rescheduled hearing.
The postponement votes: Annexation ordinance (item 24) — motion to postpone to April 17; mover/second not specified; vote unanimous (7–0). Zoning case z-24-0124 (item 21) — motion to postpone to April 17; mover/second not specified; vote unanimous (7–0).
