The Kennett Consolidated School District board on March 10 approved several student overnight trips requested under board policy 121 (field trips).
Robotics: Students and advisors asked the board to approve two potential overnight trips: the Mid-Atlantic District Championship (April 3–5 in Bethlehem, Pa.) if the team qualifies, and the FIRST Robotics World Championship (April 15–20 in Houston) if the team advances. A student representative said, "We're just here to, just ask for permission for an overnight trip for our district championship if we qualify and our worlds also if we qualify." The board approved the motion. Members wished students luck representing the district.
Choir: The board approved a choir trip to Hartford, Connecticut, to attend a National Association for Music Education event. District staff praised individual student singers and Mr. Batten, the choir director, during the brief presentation; the motion passed by voice vote.
FBLA: The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter requested approval for an April 6–9 student trip to Hershey, Pa.; about 10 students qualified to attend with one chaperone (Mr. Fritch) and the group will stay at Hershey Lodge. The board approved the request.
All trips were approved by voice vote with no recorded roll-call. Each trip was authorized "in accordance with board policy 121 (field trips)," as stated in the agenda material.
Ending: The board extended well-wishes to students attending the events and thanked advisors for arranging travel.
