Facilities report: Greenwood, New Garden projects remain on schedule; TV studio, auditorium upgrades planned

District facilities staff told the board that excavation, masonry and underground utilities work at Greenwood are progressing and New Garden’s roofing deck and classroom wings are advancing. The high school TV studio will be converted to LED lighting and a new auditorium projector will be installed during spring break.
Kennett Consolidated School District facilities staff provided the board with a March update on construction and maintenance projects and said the two new elementary-school projects are on schedule.
Facilities presenter Mr. Bryce reported progress on several fronts at the high school and at the two elementary construction sites. At Kennett High School, central maintenance prepared to convert the TV studio lighting to energy-efficient LED fixtures and to replace certain outlets and reroute power; an outside contractor will finish the LED install. The high-school auditorium will receive a new projector mounted outside the sound booth, and central maintenance installed a new outlet to support that work.
Greenwood construction updates cited by facilities staff included completed site work and sanitary-line excavation for Area A (main office and media center), continuing excavation for electrical and data conduit in Areas A and B, and completed concrete-masonry (CMU) walls in Area B (cafeteria/kitchen). Foundation and masonry are ongoing in classroom Areas D and E; underground electrical and plumbing feeds are in progress. Mr. Bryce said the Greenwood project "is on schedule."
At the New Garden elementary project, staff reported completion of the roofing deck in Area A, installation of south-side stairs in classroom areas C and D, ongoing electrical conduit and wiring in those wings, and continued window-frame and roofing work. Central Grounds staff have begun spring-sports preparation; maintenance crews installed poles and netting around the track for lacrosse. Facilities staff also reported recent storm-related tree damage and that contractor ProTree is assisting with cleanup and assessment for additional pruning/removal.
The facilities report closed with a personnel note: maintenance staff member Tom DePette is retiring at the end of the month after roughly 10 years of service; the district and board offered thanks for his service.
Ending: Board members thanked facilities staff for the clear format of the report and were directed to the district’s website for drone “flyover” videos and monthly construction updates posted by the facilities office.
