Upper Dublin School District presented recommendations for next steps on transportation-facility planning during the finance committee meeting on March 19, 2025, outlining immediate lease-extension talks at the current site (275 New Jersey Drive) and a plan to reengage a real‑estate agent for a township-focused property search.
The administration said the district’s current lease at 275 New Jersey Drive runs through June 30, 2026, and recommended starting lease-extension conversations with the owner so the district would retain an operating facility while pursuing a longer-term solution. The administration recommended issuing an RFP for a real‑estate agent (not necessarily the previously engaged JLL) to evaluate properties in Upper Dublin Township against criteria including a minimum 3-acre parcel, approximately 10,000 square feet of building area (2,000 office / 8,000 maintenance/storage), and adequate parking to support the transportation and grounds staffs.
Why it matters: The transportation operation currently parks and maintains buses, grounds vehicles and houses roughly 50 staff at the facility; moving the facility outside the township would increase empty miles (drivers and buses traveling to and from the district) and could reduce state transportation subsidy allocations that are tied to program efficiency, administration said.
What administration does not recommend: The presentation explicitly discouraged locating the permanent facility outside the township, splitting bus parking from maintenance functions, or outsourcing fleet parking without a local facility, citing operational inefficiencies, added mileage and potential impacts on state subsidy formulas. Committee members asked administration to include near-border properties in the search if they are effectively adjacent to the township and otherwise meet criteria.
Next steps: Committee members directed the administration to (1) begin lease-extension negotiations with the current property owner and (2) issue an RFP for real-estate-agent services to locate candidate properties, including guidance to flag properties very near the township border for evaluation.
