Governor reiterates focus on border security, rejects placing children on immigration lists

The governor framed the issue as separate from immigration enforcement that targets criminal actors. He said concerns about officials’ political motives for raising the immigration-list idea are to be expected in an election year.
The governor also suggested he expects continued political disputes over such proposals and said voters generally “trust me on these issues,” but he did not specify any pending rulemaking or legislation on student immigration records during the briefing.
