The Colchester School Board approved recommendations to issue teacher and administrator contracts for the 2025–26 school year.
Superintendent Amy told the board HR will begin preparing electronic contracts and send them next Monday; teachers will have roughly 10 working days to sign. Several items on the lists include TBD placeholders because staff members had announced retirements, and the district reminded the board that the consent agenda will reflect any employment changes through the spring.
A board member asked whether retirements that lead to the hiring of lower-salaried replacements create a budget surplus and how that surplus is handled. George (district staff) said the effect can vary — salary savings may be offset by different benefits selections (for example, family versus single medical plans). When there is an unspent surplus at year-end, it carries forward and the board can decide how to use it; surplus can also be used to support other spending if the board elects.
Motions to approve the superintendent’s recommended teacher contract renewals and the recommended administrator contracts both passed by voice vote during the meeting.
HR and administration will track and post any subsequent employment changes to the consent agenda as replacements are hired or as staff make other employment decisions over the summer.
