The Colchester School Board approved the first readings of board policies B1, B2 and A1, which together cover board composition and duties, the code of ethics for board members and the management and suspension of policies.
Superintendent Amy reviewed the three policies and said they reflect the Vermont School Boards Association model language and that there are no changes in the district’s draft this year. She summarized B1 as outlining how the five-member board is organized and members’ responsibilities, B2 as the board’s code of ethics including conflict-of-interest guidance, and A1 as governing the policy revision cycle and management.
Board members raised a question about timing for officer nominations after elections and the superintendent clarified that the district’s meeting schedule can coincide with election night and that it is acceptable for members on the ballot to abstain from that post-election meeting if they choose. With no substantive changes proposed at this reading, a motion to approve the first readings passed by voice vote.
The board will bring these policies back for subsequent reading and final adoption per its policy review calendar.
