“I'm seriously considering I really think we should consider combining bylaws and ethics,” Rodriguez said, describing the two committees as “governance related” with procedural and disciplinary overlaps. She noted the borough president’s office has discussed whether the ethics committee should be a standing committee and said she had received inquiries from other board members about the committee structure.
Rodriguez said a consolidated committee could reduce duplication and provide a single forum to review bylaws and handle ethics complaints as they arise. She emphasized that neither committee would necessarily need to meet monthly and that ethics matters could be handled as complaints are filed.
Board members agreed the idea should be discussed with the affected committees and brought to the full board for consideration. No formal action or vote took place at the executive board meeting; Rodriguez asked for further discussion in leadership and with both committees before any change would be proposed to the full board.
The proposal will be carried forward for discussion at leadership and later at a full-board meeting.
