Aurora staff outline May 17 Waterwise Day; committee seeks volunteer introductions and vendor help

Aurora Water staff presented plans for the municipality’s second annual Waterwise Day at the Waterwise Garden and asked committee members to volunteer for speaker introductions and outreach.

Amanda (garden manager) and other staff briefed council members on event details. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, from 8:30 a.m. to about 12:00 p.m. Staff said the event will feature four educational sessions, two garden tours led by Amanda, roughly 18 booths and vendors, expanded youth activities, breakfast for up to 50 people (provided by a local vendor), giveaways and raffles. Staff said they are shortening the overall event window compared with 2024 to avoid a mid-day lull while preserving engagement opportunities.

Committee members volunteered for session intros at different times: members offered availability for the 8:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. sessions. Staff said they will provide more detail and scheduling by email and that volunteers may confirm closer to the date. Marshall and other council members noted the event was well received in 2024 and supported continuing the event as an educational outreach tool.

Staff described traffic control, ADA accommodations, restroom and hand‑washing station planning, and an inclement-weather fallback plan that would move educational sessions into the AMC Aurora Room. Staff said they are expanding raffle handling and youth programming this year and will continue to adjust vendor participation until the event.

No formal vote was required; the meeting record shows committee support and volunteers to assist with the event.
