Board votes to end issuance of district cell phones to board members

The Cartwright Elementary District Governing Board voted to end the practice of providing district-owned cell phones to governing-board members.
Board staff explained the board previously authorized district-issued phones and a user agreement in 2019. Acting Superintendent Steve Watson told the board there had been instances in the past where devices were not returned "in a timely manner, if at all," and staff had worked to collect outstanding equipment. The board discussed two options presented by the district: add an exhibit to clarify return timelines, or terminate the phone-issuance program. After brief discussion the board voted to terminate the practice.
On the roll call Miss Romero abstained; Miss Hernandez voted aye; Miss Garcia abstained; other members voted to terminate issuance. Staff said they will follow up to collect any devices that remain in former board members— possession and publish any related administrative procedures.
