Board votes to move regular meetings to Wednesdays amid calls for public survey

The Cartwright Elementary District Governing Board adopted a revision to Policy BE to change its regular meeting day from Thursday to Wednesday, the board said during a second-reading action.
Acting Superintendent Steve Watson said the revision updates the policy to reflect a day change. Board members debated whether more public outreach was necessary before making the change. Board member Denise Garcia asked that the district circulate a survey to families and staff to confirm the new meeting day suits community needs; she then voted no on the item. Board member Miss Romero explained she would abstain for the same reason, saying the board should survey families. Other board members voted to adopt the change and the policy passed.
Board members who supported the switch said they had heard from families who could not attend Thursday meetings and that Wednesday evenings would let more parents participate. Opponents called for a formal survey before finalizing meeting times.
The board president said staff will make meeting-date information publicly available and recommended circulating supporting documentation used to reach the decision. The revised policy will go into effect immediately for scheduling of future regular meetings; the next regular meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 6 p.m.
