The finance committee approved an appropriation of $5,065,600 in subrecipient grant dollars awarded to the city through a broader U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) award to the Southwest Renewal Foundation of High Point.
Steven Howerlik, the city27s budget and performance director, told the committee the Southwest Renewal Foundation had been awarded a community change grant totaling $18,500,000 by the EPA; the city27s subrecipient portion is $5,065,600. "Of this amount, dollars 5,065,600 have been, awarded to the city, to be used for, sewer infrastructure rehabilitation in the Southwest portion of the city, as well as some, camera installations to combat illegal dumping," Howerlik said.
Committee members asked about the number of cameras and were told by Mr. DeCain that the project includes 10 cameras. The item appropriates the grant dollars and sets up the funds in the city27s financial system for spending; the subrecipient agreement had been approved by council at the prior meeting, Howerlik said.
The motion to appropriate the subrecipient funds was made, seconded and approved by the committee. Staff said they would proceed with spending under the terms of the subrecipient agreement.
