BPU introduces sewage (wastewater) rate ordinance, hearing set for April 16

On March 19 the Board of Public Utilities introduced County of Los Alamos ordinance 0-2-366, a proposed amendment to Chapter 40, Article 3, Sections 40‑201 relating to sewage service rates. The ordinance was introduced for public hearing April 16.
Department staff told the board the ordinance would replace a previously scheduled 2% increase effective Oct. 1, 2025 and instead implement a 7% increase in FY26 and another 7% in FY27. Staff framed the change as consistent with the FY26 budget presented to the board. There was no public comment on this item at the March 19 meeting.
Member Jen introduced the ordinance on the floor: "I introduce Without Prejudice Incorporated County of Los Alamos code ordinance number 0 2 dash 3 6 6, an ordinance amending chapter 40, article 3, sections 40 dash 2 0 1 relating to sewage service rates." As with the electric rate introduction, the ordinance will be subject to a public hearing at the board’s April 16 meeting and later considered by County Council.
Because this was an introduction, the board did not take a substantive vote on rate adoption at this meeting.
