Mayor's Youth Council to lead garden projects for Global Youth Service Day in May

At its March 18 meeting the Mayor's Youth Council moved forward with planning for Global Youth Service Day, tentatively set for May 3 or May 10, and asked members to volunteer for a planning committee to organize garden projects at city multi-service centers.
Ms. Jackson, the Youth Council coordinator, said the event is an "NYC hosted project" called Global Youth Service Day and described it as an annual youth participation event for people ages 5 to 25. She said the council needs a committee to handle tasks such as T-shirt design and site-team assignments and asked members to check schedules because participation will be required for Mayor's Youth Council members.
Justin, environmental justice committee chair, said his committee is prepared to lead the garden-focused service work and that the council is coordinating with Mr. Aguilar from Volunteer Initiatives and expects participation from the City of Houston Youth Ambassadors and other youth groups.
Organizers said teams will be assigned based on volunteers' neighborhoods and the needs of the multi-service centers. Logistics, final date confirmation and site assignments will be circulated to members by email.
