The California State Assembly adopted Assembly Concurrent Resolution 48 recognizing March 22, 2025, as Women in STEM Day and Assembly Concurrent Resolution 49 recognizing the same date as California STEAM Robotics Day.
Assemblymember De Maio introduced both measures, saying they honor the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and math and encourage mentorship and access for young women. De Maio specifically credited Poway High School’s robotics team for prompting the resolutions and urged members to support efforts to increase female participation in STEM and STEAM education.
Assemblymember Ransom, the Legislative Women's Caucus chair and other members urged mentorship, access to education and workplace inclusion as ways to reduce barriers. The clerk recorded 66 coauthors on ACR 48 and 63 on ACR 49; both measures were adopted by voice vote.
Both resolutions are ceremonial and call for increased outreach, mentorship and school‑level supports to expand opportunities for women and girls in STEM and robotics programs. No funding or statutory provisions were introduced in either resolution.
